Psalm 27

Sung response: For with you is the fountain of life;
    in your light do we see light.

L: The Lord is my light and my salvation;
    whom shall I fear?
R: The Lord is the stronghold of my life;
    of whom shall I be afraid?
L: When evildoers assail me to devour my flesh
    my adversaries and foes shall stumble and fall.
R: Though a host encamp against me,
    my heart shall not fear;
   though war rise up against me,
    yet I will be confident.
L: One thing I asked of the Lord,
    that will I seek after:
R: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord
    all the days of my life,
   to behold the beauty of the Lord,
    and to inquire in his temple.

L: The Lord will hide me in his shelter
    in the day of trouble;
   will conceal me under the cover of his tent;
    and will set me high upon a rock.
R: And now my head shall be lifted up
    above my enemies all round about me;
   and I will offer sacrifices in his tent
    with shouts of joy;
   I will sing and make melody to the Lord.

L: Hear, O Lord, when I cry aloud,
    be gracious to me and answer me!
R: "Come," my heart said, "seek his face."
    Your face, Lord, I seek.
L: Hide not your face from me.
    Turn not your servant away in anger,
   for you have been my help.
R: Cast me not off, forsake me not,
    O God of my salvation!
   If my father and mother should forsake me,
    the Lord would take me up.

L: Teach me your way, O Lord;
    and lead me on a level path
    because of my enemies.
R: Give me not up to the will of my adversaries,
    for false witnesses have risen against me,
    and they breathe out violence.
L: I believe that I shall see the goodness of the Lord
    in the land of the living!
R: Wait for the Lord;
    be strong, and let your heart take courage.
   Wait for the Lord!
